DBI Technologies Releases Component ToolBox 4

DBI Technologies has released Component ToolBox 4.0, a cache of 54 ActiveX components for Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual FoxPro, Access, Delphi, PowerBuilder, and HTML. Version 4.0 includes ctImage, which loads picture information asynchronously in order to transfer the information to another component on a web page. Also added to v4 is ctHTML, which provides the ability to display and browse HTML documents.

A single developer license for Component ToolBox 4.0 lists for $299, and includes 32-bit licensed ActiveX components, and sample applications (with source code) for Visual Basic 6.0, Visual FoxPro 6.0, and Access 97.

Desaware Ships VersionStamper v6.0

Desaware has shipped VersionStamper v6.0, a distribution toolkit that allows safe distribution of component-based applications created with development tools that support the Microsoft Active Platform including Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0. VersionStamper v6.0 adds ATL-based components and a standalone emergency rescue program that can help resolve conflicts even when serious dependency problems prevent any Visual Basic-based application from running. It also includes a dependency wizard to help developers determine all of the components used by an application and automatically create scripts for verification and remote update. The technical notes that accompany the program provide a discussion of the Microsoft Windows-based system of version stamping and strategies for reliably distributing component-based applications.

Sheridan Software Offers ActiveSuite Plus and ActiveToolBars Plus

Sheridan Software has released two products for programmers creating applications with the look and feel of Microsoft Office 97 or 2000: ActiveSuite Plus and ActiveToolBars Plus. ActiveSuite Plus, an upgrade edition of ActiveSuite, consists of ActiveX controls for emulating the look and feel of Office 97 and 2000. The controls include ActiveListBar, ActiveTreeView, ActiveThreed Plus, and ActiveToolBars Plus.

ActiveToolBars Plus offers Office 2000-style customization capability; personalized menus and flyout toolbars; and ActiveTabs, a tab control that contains wizard-style tabs for creation of application wizards. ActiveToolBars Plus is backward-compatible for developers already using ActiveToolBars.

ActiveSuite Plus costs $595. ActiveToolBars Plus costs $195 for the full product and $79 for the upgrade.

Premia Announces Programmer's Editing System

Premia Corporation has released CodeWright 6.0, the Programmer's Editing System. Version 6 adds tools optimized for code completion, code reuse, and code storage management. New in version 6 is CodeSense, a popup picklist for completing C functions. A partially typed symbol can invoke the list.

Another new feature is CodeFolio, which allows code to be stored in an explorer-style directory within a dedicated window. When a named code segment is dropped from the CodeFolio window into a target document, CodeFolio allows macro expansion and prompted input at the insertion point.

A single-user license for CodeWright 6.0 costs $299, an upgrade $99. Multi-user licenses are available.

Intland Launches Intland Source Explorer 1.0

Intland has launched Intland Source Explorer 1.0, a source code engineering tool for C, C++, and Java developers, project managers, and quality assurance engineers. The 100 percent Java GUI runs as an installed application, or as an applet in a web browser. The application server and the central repository provide concurrent access for individuals and teams. Source Explorer works on local workstations, and in distributed environments using LANs, intranets, or the internet, and consists of tools such as cross-referencer, class browser, symbol browser, inheritance browser, include browser, local and remote edit/compile/build, textual search, and SQL complexity query.

Harper Star Releases Visual Footprints

Harper Star Software has released Visual Footprints, a software debugging and testing tool. Visual Footprints supports programming traces in any version of C and C++. Traces are also supported in any development language that supports ActiveX, by creating the Visual Footprints Trace object like any other ActiveX object, and then using it throughout the program. A type library is supplied to support early binding. Also, traces can be associated with a group string, allowing them to be grouped and viewed separately from other traces.

Visual Footprints costs $199.95. The purchase price includes a collection of sample code.

ICS's BX PRO Now Available for SuSE Linux

Integrated Computer Solutions, Inc. has announced a version of Builder Xcessory (BX PRO) for SuSE Linux. BX PRO v5.0.5 contains Builder Xcessory for Motif, a graphical user interface builder; ViewKit, a C++ reuse framework that can be tailored to accommodate the needs of individual businesses; and EnhancementPak, a library of 34 reusable components including business graphs and user interface controls.

Dart Announces New PowerTCP Tools

Dart Communications has unbundled and reengineered PowerTCP as PowerTPC Tools. PowerTPC Tools offers individually packaged, royalty-free, ActiveX components, including the FTP Tool, Winsock Tool, Telnet Tool, Emulation Tool, Server Tool, Web Tool, Mail Tool, and SNMP Tool. PowerTPC Tools includes sample applications for Visual Basic, Visual C++, C++Builder, Delphi, and PowerBuilder. In addition, PowerTPC Tools includes a modular, multi-tier architecture for design flexibility, Winsock 2 compatibility, and blocking behavior for scripting applications.

Cygnus Announces Cygnus Code Fusion for Linux and Sourceware CD

Cygnus Solutions has released Code Fusion for Linux, an IDE-optimized for the Intel architecture. Code Fusion for Linux integrates C, C++, and Java with a GUI. Code Fusion also combines the latest open-source GNU tools release with a graphical IDE framework.

In addition to Code Fusion for Linux, Cygnus has launched Sourceware CD, a subscription program for the open-source software projects hosted by Cygnus at http://sourceware.cygnus.com. The Sourceware CD provides convenient access to the latest open-source technologies, such as eCos (embedded Cygnus operating system), the EGCS compiler, GDB debugger, and Cygwin, all currently available on the sourceware.cygnus.com website.

Diab Data Offers Compiling Solutions for IBM and Motorola Microprocessors

Diab Data Inc. has released several compiling suites and runtime analysis tools for the IBM PowerPC 405GP Microprocessor and the Motorola ColdFire Embedded Microprocessor. The compiling suites for C, C++, and Java include the pSOS real-time operating system and pRISM+ development environment from Integrated Systems, Inc. and the SingleStep debug suite from Software Development Systems, Inc.

The compiling suites work with Diab Data's run-time analysis tools, the RTA Suite. RTA tools include a run-time error checker, visual interactive profiler, stack use analyzer, link map analyzer, and code size analyzer.

SolutionSoft Releases Time Machine 3 for NT

SolutionSoft Systems, Inc. has released Time Machine R3 for NT. Time Machine is a date and time simulation tool that allows applications to use virtual clocks instead of the system clock. File timestamps and the system log reflect the system clock so that backup, logging, and other tasks operate properly. Time Machine enables concurrent testing with up to 200 different clocks on the same system. In addition, Time Machine's contingency planning capability, designed for applications that will not be Y2K-compliant before the millennium, can set a clock back to a past time without interfering with daily operations.

DT Software Releases v5.2 of Its dtSearch Product Line

DT Software, Inc. introduced version 5.2 of dtSearch, dtSearch Web, and dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine. dtSearch offers over two dozen text search options, built-in file and image viewers, and the ability to automatically recognize, search, and display documents with search hits highlighted. dtSearch Web displays retrieved documents directly in a user's browser with the hits graphically marked. dtSearch Web keeps all HTML attributes intact, so embedded images and hypertext links appear and work just as they did in the original document. The dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine allows developers to embed dtSearch text retrieval technology in commercially distributed or in-house products for the PC, LAN, or Internet/intranet.

Pricing for dtSearch starts at $199 for single-user, $800 for LAN 5. Pricing for dtSearch Web and dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine starts at $999.

New Wave Ships Software Piracy Intervention

New Wave Software has released Software Piracy Intervention (SPI), a product for preventing software piracy and tracking those who attempt it. SPI adds a protective layer to software products that allows only those end users who legitimately purchased the software to install it. No matter how many copies of a protected program get distributed illegally, only the valid purchaser can install the product.

SPI includes passive and active encryption protection. Also, SPI can remotely disable stolen prepackaged software. Additionally, SPI can lock a product to the first computer on which it was successfully installed using the Lock Point feature.

Live Software Announces <CF_Anywhere>

Live Software Inc. has released <CF_Anywhere>, a product that expands the deployment platform options for web developers that use Allaire's ColdFusion. By incorporating the ColdFusion Markup Language into the JRun development platform, <CF_Anywhere> provides the developer with cross-platform and cross-server compatibility, allowing development on one server/platform and deployment on another. Platforms supported include Linux, MacOS, HP-UX, AIX, Novell NetWare 5, Alpha NT, IRIX, Solaris x86 and SPARC), and others, in addition to the standard Allaire-supported platforms.

Northwoods Announces GO++ for Java

Northwoods Software Corporation has released GO++ for Java, a product for creating interactive graphics and diagrams, such as those used in telephony and workflow applications.

GO++ for Java is a set of classes for building applications and applets with interactive diagrams, such as workflow, organization charts, and UML diagrams. GO++ for Java supports documents, views, and graphical objects such as rectangles, ellipses, polygons, text, images, and lines. Objects can be grouped together in a hierarchical structure, forming arbitrarily complex nodes from basic GO++ objects. GO++ for Java supports mouse-based object manipulation, including selection, resize, and real-time dragging.

Excel Software has announced WinA&D 3.0, a product for system analysis, requirements specification, software design, and code generation. Version 3.0 adds Java code generation, design namespaces, UML enhancements, dictionary enhancements, document templates, and productivity features. WinA&D has diagram editors for process models, data models, class models, state models, object models, structure models, and task models. Each model shows a different view of a software system that is integrated through a global data dictionary.

Intellessence Launches IntellePret v2.0

Intellessence Inc. has released IntellePret 2.0, a C-like interpreter packaged as a scriptable COM component. IntellePret 2.0 prepares an expression program and stores it in an intermediate state, allowing repeated high-speed execution. All user-defined functions, global and local variables, and function parameters are exposed. The user can access and modify function parameters, and invoke each function directly on a selective basis.

IntellePret 2.0 is modeled on the syntax of C, and includes logical evaluation, control flow, and looping constructs. IntellePret 2.0 supports bool, int, double, and string data types. An extensive library of functions are included. IntellePret 2.0 can be used with C, C++, Visual Basic, and scripting languages.

Modern Software Publishing Debuts eTrial

Modern Software Publishing announced eTrial, an Internet based e-commerce product for real-time distribution and sales of software beginning with the trial version. eTrial allows customers to sample, buy, and license a product over the Internet. By enabling the customer's trial version, eTrial eliminates the necessity of sending a new or different version.

eTrial also incorporates optional copy protection. Copies of the protected software automatically revert back into a trial version, enforcing copy protection.

Pricing is based on a flat fee (to cover credit card expenses) plus an additional fee based on your product's price.

Z-Soft Releases FileProbe v1.02 for NT/95/98

Z-Soft has released FileProbe v1.02 for Windows NT/95/98, a file management environment. IRealms Launches MagicPatch

IRealms, Inc. has launched MagicPatch, software that enables developers to deploy application updates either automatically or with a click of a button. MagicPatch consists of two main components. First, an analysis program compares existing and new versions of an application and records just the bytes that have changed, then places them on an Internet server where they become available to customers. Second, a program integrated into the application is configured to watch a specific location on the Internet for updates to the application. As soon as the updates are available, MagicPatch will retrieve and apply the changes either automatically or upon demand, as configured by the developer.

MagicPatch is available in two versions: Standard for $599 and Professional for $899. The Professional version includes advanced features such as system file update capabilities, embedded serial number support, and exclusion ranges.

EC Software Releases Help & Manual v2.0

EC Software has released Help & Manual v2.0, a Windows NT/95/98 application that helps create online help files, HTML and printed user manuals from a single source. Help & Manual v2.0 can create Winhelp files for all version of Windows, from 3.x through NT, as well as the new HTML Help files. The program also supports plain HTML, rich text, and printed formats.

Help & Manual v2.0 provides a WYSIWYG display. The word-processor-style interface provides toolbars and right-click menus for creating topics and links, adding images, and entering text. The program creates hyperlinks with a drag-and-drop, automatically translates margins into HTML tables, and converts Windows metafiles, bitmaps, and OLE objects to GIF images.
