Hi,
Thanks for the review with screenshots.

A number of new features and tools are added on testing end, Most of them are introduced in Visual Studio 2012 update 1 and Update 2. More on this can found in below post

Once you do the registry trick to get rid of the uppercase menus and the coloring from Hanselman, it's a nice IDE. The Premium is a good lower-priced option for indie developers who don't use TFS.

I for one am happy with the trend away from "3D" interfaces towards a more simpler UI that focuses on the work, not the "wow".

The first VS2012 update has been released:

LOL! If that is the secret plan, I expect it'll be VS 2014, based on the recent two-year cycles (VS 2008, '10, '12). More seriously, I expect the timing of an update to the UI will have a lot more to do with the reaction of customers to Metro on the desktop once Win 8 ships.

Just from the UI section in the review, the "awful" upgrade is probably a means to whet our appitite for the next VS2015 version.

I can confirm that upgrading from an earlier version of Visual Studio (in our case VS .NET 2003) was a seamless process. We're actually using the same project files for VS2010 and VS2012 interchangeably.

One thing of note though: native applications compiled with VS2012 won't run on WinXP or Server 2003 (thus our need to use VS2010). However, Microsoft is inclined to add support to target older platforms with an update.

Well, it is Windows Server 2008 R2 (Win7 - NT 6.1 based), not Windows Server 2008 (Vista - NT 6.0 based)

I will force myself to use the new pale color theme for a month, to try it out. If I can stand it - I'll colorize it ;-)
