RSA Digital Signatures

Digital signatures are growing in importance as they gain legal standing with traditional handwritten signatures. Burton examines the three most popular signature schemes currently in use.

Figure 3: PKCS #1 v1.5 padding format. Message representative consists of fixed padding followed by a hash function identifier and the hash value. 00 and ff are byte values in hexadecimal. The hash function identifier is variable length and can potentially identify any hash function. The message representative is the same length in bytes as the signer's RSA modulus.
