Although the bang-for-the-buck of the RPi is larger on most fronts than the full/retail Arduino's, you can still make an Arduino-compatible in the privacy of your own home for <$5, whereas you probably can't do the same (reliably) with an RPi-compatible <$20 without n*$10K of assembly equipment.
There's plenty of things for a $5 Arduino to do that can't/won't be done with a $20 StripPi.
And, clearly, vice-versa.
